Carpenter Place
Professional Information
Carpenter Place is a Level 4 residential setting where girls ages 6 thru 21 come to receive treatment.
There are two cottages where the girls reside, one is the Christian Family Residential Cottage for ages 6 thru 18 and the other is the Intensive Life Skills (ILS) program for ages 16-21.
The Christian Family Residential Cottage is for those girls who have various problems from behavioral, abuse issues, school, etc. The program is a Level and point system and highly structured. Cottage parents watch over the girls and provide a structured Christian environment.
The Intensive Life Skills program is for girls who will not return home and will learn how to make the transition to independent living, attend college, vo tech, or enter the work place on their own. They are taught how to develop a budget, savings and checking account, complete school and move on to college and permanent employment.
Because of the extended freedoms this program provides the girl needs to be somewhat responsible and capable, to a certain extent, of self management or willing to learn.
Admission Process
In order to admit a person to Carpenter Place, an admission application and assessment need to be completed and returned to the Director of Services. The information is reviewed by the Director and Cottage parent and if the information meet admission requirements then a time is scheduled to meet with the potential admit and her family on site at Carpenter Place.
Carpenter Place does not admit girls who are actively suicidal or homicidal, physically aggressive to self or others, chronic cutters or those who are chronic runaways.
The initial assessment meeting allows for Carpenter Place staff and the family to discuss the program and ask questions that may arise.
After the meeting the family and the potential admit leave and the Director and the cottage parent process the information received and make a determination if the girl will be accepted into the program.
Parents will be notified of the decision by phone and an admit date will be scheduled.
There are no emergency admits and all admits are planned admits.
There may be an occasion when a person comes from a city several hours away or out of state that it may be possible to assess and admit the same day based on prior arrangement.
Financial Information
Carpenter Place takes only self pay and does not take insurance or the medical card for payment.
The fee is $750 a month. If a family feels they would need financial assistance then there is a Financial Evaluation form that is completed by the responsible family and a determination is made by the Director of Services if an adjustment can be made.
Therapy
It is preferred that the girl be seen by one of the therapists located on site at Carpenter Place. If this is not possible and the girl will continue to be seen by the referring therapist the cottage parent will see that the girl is taken to the therapy appointment.
Family Involvement
It is important for the family of the girl who is placed at Carpenter Place to be involved in therapy and is a requirement that the parent or guardian be involved in the therapies if the girl to be accepted at Carpenter Place.
Medication
If a girl is on medications the cottage parent will see that the girl is taken to the provider off grounds for the med appointment.
School
Girls who are placed in our homes attend Carpenter Christian Learning Center. We believe that the best plan for educating these young women is to address each girl's individual abilities, experiences and needs. We strong believe that an on-campus school is the key to meeting those needs and will provide these benefits:
- The individualized instruction will create an environment where each girl can work and improve to her academic potential.

A flexible schedule will allow for therapies and other appointments during the day with minimal disruption to course work.

The on-campus school will also help us work individually with each girl and any behavioral issues that arise, giving staff the opportunity to intervene and keep the resident focused.

The curriculum will log credits for the high school students so that they can return home with a transcript and continue their schooling.

In a case where a girl is functioning well and interested in extra-curricular activities at our neighborhood public school, the decision could be made to allow her to remain or enroll there.
Discharge
Discharge is a planned process and should not be done in a few days but over several weeks, sessions with the parents and resident should be completed in order to develop a plan and goals to make the transition back to the home a smooth one.
