What We Do

As a ministry of the Churches of Christ, the mission of Carpenter Place is to equip children and their families with skills for handling personal problems and pressures by promoting Emotional, Social, Physical and Spiritual Strength through meeting personal needs. Young ladies are placed at Carpenter Place through various agencies or private referrals. The children come to Carpenter Place with an array of problems, ranging from physical and/or sexual abuse to truancy and/or chemical dependency problems.

The Treatment Team is made up of various professionals, including  houseparents, therapists, and the Director of Services — all committed to treating the child and the family as a whole, with the goal of reuniting the family.

National Membership

Carpenter Place is a member of the Christian Child and Family Services Association (CCFSA), which represents agencies involved with childcare-related work under the auspices of the Churches of Christ.   Established in 1952, the CCFSA currently has 47 agencies operating from 90 locations in 21 states.

The CCFSA represents programs across the country that support children and their families with counseling, residential care, family foster care, maternity and adoption services, and much more.  To learn more about the association and their mission to help children and families in need across America, logon to www.ccfsa.org.

Our Programs

Thanks to the financial support of many people over the years, Carpenter Place has four homes, each of which currently serves a specific program.

The Christian Family Program is a structured program with a Level system for the residents. Two homes, Harrold and Mom Bolin, are dedicated to this program and can serve seven girls, ages 6 – 18,  in each home. The Christian Family Program Handbook provides detailed information about the requirements and expectations for participants.   The Parent or Guardian Handbook provides guidelines and expectations for parents and guardians of our residents.

The Intensive Life Skills Cottage (ILS) is located in the Nelson Home. This is an independent living program for females, ages 16 through 21. The program is designed for girls to learn the necessary skills to become independent while maintaining adult supervision. Learning responsibility is an important aspect of the program.  Requirements and expectations for participants in the ILS are included in the Intensive Life Skills Resident’s Handbook.

Barrett Home is the relief house where girls reside when live-in houseparents have time off.
